Getting Here by Plane

The nearest airport to Washington University is the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. Southwest Airlines flies into the East Terminal, and all other carriers fly into the main terminal. From the airport, there are many ways of getting to campus.

Rental Car

Taxi

Taxis are available at Lambert Airport. Two local cab companies are County Cab (314-991-5300) and Laclede Cab (314-652-3456).

Metrolink

See the Metrolink directions below.

The Metrolink has a station at Lambert Airport’s Main and East Terminals. The Airport is the end of the line in Missouri, so your only option is to take an eastbound car. For you can take the light rail system from the airport to the Forest Park station. At the Forest Park Station, you can transfer to the westbound Shrewsbury Line (simply walk to the other side of the platform).

If you are going to the North Side (the Village), take the Shrewsbury Line just a couple of stops and get off at the University City/BigBend stop. This stop is right across the street from Washington Universty and the North Side.

If you are going to the South 40, you will get off at the Skinker Station. Wait at the shuttle bus stop located in the WU parking lot located at the corner of Skinker Blvd. and Forest Park Parkway (this is the intersection that you will be at when exiting the Metro Station). Take the Green Line (Campus Circulator) to the South 40 (verify with the driver that they are headed to the South 40 and not to the Village or U. City). Deboard the shuttle at the Clocktower on the South 40 and the Residential Life Center is located to the left, with its entrance under a green awning.

Getting Here by Car

Washington University's Hilltop Campus is centrally located in the St. Louis metropolitan area and is readily accessible from the major highways.

These directions bring you to the South 40 residential area. If you are trying to get to the North Side, please follow the directions to the South 40 from your location until you get to Big Bend Blvd, then follow the directions under To the North Side.

From the Airport

Head east on I-70 to I-170 south. Take Delmar Blvd. exit and turn left. Stay on Delmar until Big Bend Blvd. and turn right. To go to the residences in the Village or Millbrook, turn left on Snow Way, which is just before Forsyth Blvd. To get to the South 40 residences, go just past Forsyth Blvd., to Shepley Drive and turn left.

From the East on US 40 / I-64

Take Clayton Rd. exit. Turn right onto Skinker Blvd. After 1 mile, turn left on Forsyth Blvd. To go to the residences in the Village or Millbrook, turn right onto Big Bend Blvd and then right onto Snow Way. To get to the South 40 residences, go to Big Bend Blvd. and turn left. Then make your first left onto Shepley Drive.

From the West on I-44

Take I-270 north to US 40 / I-64 east. Follow the directions below for From the West on US 40 / I-64.

From the West on US 40 / I-64

US 40 / I-64, a major thoroughfare in St. Louis, will be under construction through 2010.

To the North Side

Rather than turning left onto Shepley Drive, turn left onto Snow Way Drive. If you pass Forsyth Blvd, then you went too far. Proceed east along Snow Way. All vehicles must be parked in the parking garage on Snow Way (just north of Fraternity Row) or the parking garage north of the Law School. There will be temporary unloading zones available near ALL buildings. Unattended vehicles will be towed. To exit, take Snow Way to Throop Drive north and out on Forest Park Pkwy.

Getting Here by Metrolink

From the Airport

Follow the signs in the airport terminal towards the Metrolink. Board the train heading eastbound with “Shiloh-Scott” on the destination display. Take this train to the Forest Park station and deboard. Walk to the other side of the platform and wait for a westbound train with “Shrewsbury/I-44” on the destination display. To get to the South 40 residences, take this train to the Skinker station. Walk to the corner of Skinker and Forest Park Parkway and wait at the shuttle stop located in the parking lot behind Whitaker Hall. Take the Green Line or Campus Circulation to the South 40 (verify with the driver that they are headed to the South 40 and not to the Village or U. City). Deboard the shuttle at either Beaumont and Dauten or the Clocktower.

From the Amtrak station

From the Amtrak station, walk up S 16th Street towards Spruce Street. Make a right on Spruce Street and walk until you reach the Civic Center Metrolink station. Wait for a westbound train with “Shrewsbury/I-44” on the destination display. To get to the South 40 residences, take this train to the Skinker station. Walk to the corner of Skinker and Forest Park Parkway and wait at the shuttle stop located in the parking lot behind Whitaker Hall. Take the Green Line or Campus Circulation to the South 40 (verify with the driver that they are headed to the South 40 and not to the Village or U. City). Deboard the shuttle at either Beaumont and Dauten or the Clocktower.

From the Greyhound station

From the Grayhound station, walk to the bus stop for the #30 MetroBus. Board the #30 MetroBus heading south to Brentwood Garage. Take this bus to the Convention Center MetroLink station and deboard. Enter the MetroLink station and wait for a westbound train with “Shrewsbury/I-44” on the destination display. To get to the South 40 residences, take this train to the Skinker station. Walk to the corner of Skinker and Forest Park Parkway and wait at the shuttle stop located in the parking lot behind Whitaker Hall. Take the Green Line or Campus Circulation to the South 40 (verify with the driver that they are headed to the South 40 and not to the Village or U. City). From the megabus.com station

From the megabus.com station, walk east on Market Street to S 18th Street. Turn right on S 18th Street and walk to the Union Station MetroLink station. Enter the MetroLink station and wait for a westbound train with “Shrewsbury/I-44” on the destination display. To get to the South 40 residences, take this train to the Skinker station. Walk to the corner of Skinker and Forest Park Parkway and wait at the shuttle stop located in the parking lot behind Whitaker Hall.
