Parents and Families

Welcome

Parent Orientation is a time for you to make connections with administrators and fellow parents while learning more about the Washington University community.

Spring Orientation

Parents and families of students joining the WU community in January 2010 are invited to attend Spring Orientation. Spring Orientation includes events for transfer students and January Program students alike.

New students move into their campus housing on Thursday, January 14, 2010. Students living in privately owned, off-campus housing should check with their rental company to insure that housing is ready for move-in.

We hope that you will join your student in attending the official welcome to the University, Convocation, on January 14 at 6pm in Graham Chapel. You are also invited to a welcome dinner immediately following Convocation.

Parents and family members of students living on campus are invited join their students for “Coffee and Conversations” with the Residential Life Staff on Friday morning, January 15, from 9:00am to 10:00am.

We also encourage you to attend the “parents only” session on January 15 from 11:00am -12:00pm. Consultant in Residence Karen Levin Coburn, co-author of Letting Go: A Parents’ Guide to Understanding the College Years, will lead parents in a discussion of general questions and concerns about Washington University and how parents can best support their students during these years. Current students will also be on hand to answer questions about their experiences at WU.

If you have questions about Spring Orientation or WU, please call the Orientation Office at 314-935-5040 or e-mail us at newbears@wustl.edu.

Fall Orientation 2010

The 2010 Parent & Family Orientation begins Thursday, August 26 with move-in day. You will spend this day helping your student get settled in his or her residence hall, and activities will begin in the evening. Parent & Family Orientation concludes in the afternoon on Saturday, August 28.

A schedule will be posted on this site in the spring. The schedule should be helpful as you coordinate your travel plans. Keep in mind, however, that some of the events may change between now and your arrival on campus in August. When you arrive on campus, be sure to pick up the Parent & Family Orientation booklet that will be available at the individual residence halls and the Parent Resource Center. In addition to the most up to date schedule, the booklet provides hours for on-campus dining locations and university offices.
