Pre-Orientation programs are a great start to your WU experience. It is your opportunity to work closely with a campus organization, gain valuable leadership skills, get a jump start on getting involved on campus, and meet other students with similar interests. You also will be able to move in early and begin to learn the ins and outs of Washington University’s campus before the formal Orientation program.
There are thirteen Pre-O programs for 2009; for information about each program, click on its name on the Pre-Orientation submenu.
Pre-Orientation program participants will arrive on Sunday, August 16, 2009 and move into their assigned Residence Hall Room for the year. (**Except Wilderness Project, see below.) If you are arriving by plane, a free shuttle from Lambert Airport will be provided every 30 minutes from 8:30am - 5:00pm
Pre-Orientation programs will begin between 4:00pm and 6:00pm on Sunday, August 16, 2009. Please allow enough travel time for you to arrive on campus and settle into your residence hall room before you meet your counselors for welcome activities.
**Wilderness Project participants will arrive on campus August 13, 2009. Students participating in Wilderness Project will not move in to their assigned rooms. They will need to ship their belongings to their Residence Hall Room, or have someone bring them on Move-In Day, August 20, 2009.
International students who are participating in the Explore program are expected to attend a Pre-Orientation program. You will register for your preferred program through the International Office when you register for the Explore Program for International Students. Please do not submit an application to the Orientation Office. For more information, visit the Office for International Students and Scholars website.
If your student comes to a Pre-Orientation program, we encourage you to send the student ahead. (The students will be tremendously busy with the programs and won’t have much time to spend with you.) If your student is traveling by plane, we will have orientation staff assisting new students at the airport and a free shuttle to campus on Sunday, August 16, 2009.
Instead, come join us for Parent & Family Orientation from August 20 through August 22. You’ll get more information regarding Orientation in the Parent & Family Resource Calendar that will be sent in July.
