In this program, students will meet the University’s top researchers in the fields of chemistry, physics, and mathematics and will get an orientation to the most cutting-edge research, through laboratory visits and conversations with faculty and upperclassmen. Students will also visit related industry research centers such as Boeing, who leads the world in aerospace technology and is the leading manufacturer of commercial and military aircraft, and Sigma-Aldrich, a leading chemical company whose mission is the discovery and development of breakthrough biochemicals. Lectures on current research and research “on the horizon”, provided by Washington University (WU) faculty, will be offered in the mornings. In the afternoon visits will be scheduled to area laboratories on and off campus, including the Center for Materials Innovation and the high-resolution NMR facility. Students will choose lab visits that include cosmic-ray astrophysics, mass spectrometry, thin-film deposition (among many others) and meet with senior research staff. During this four-day program students will be able to interact with scholars who are actively engaged in current research, interact with undergraduate science advisors, learn about the Washington University science curriculum, and learn about how they can best chart their own course of study in the physical sciences. The evenings will be filled with fun activities around St. Louis.
